विश्व पानी दिवसको इतिहास

• प्रत्येक वर्ष मार्च २२ तारिखका दिन विश्वभर विश्व पानी दिवस मनाइन्छ।
• संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघले सन् १९९२ मा ब्राजिलको रियो दी जेनेरियो मा भएको पर्यावरण तथा विकास महासभा मार्फत यो दिवस मनाउने घोषणा गरेको थियो ।
• पहिलो पटक सन् १९९३ मा विश्वभर विश्व पानी दिवस मनाइएको थियो ।

💦विश्वको पानी तथ्यांक

• ९७.५% पानी समुद्रमा रहेको छ, जुन नुनिलो भएकाले पिउन, सिँचाइ, वा विद्युत उत्पादनमा प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्न।
• २.५% मात्र ताजा पानी छ, जसको अधिकांश भाग हिमनदी, हिमताल र भूगर्भीय जलरूपमा रहेको छ।
• अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय पानी व्यवस्थापन संस्थाका अनुसार प्रत्येक व्यक्तिलाई वार्षिक रूपमा ९,००० घनमिटर पानी आवश्यक पर्छ।
• पृथ्वीमा १३ खर्ब ८६ अर्ब वर्ग किलोमिटर क्षेत्रमा पानी फैलिएको छ।

🚨विश्वभर पानी संकट

• जलवायु परिवर्तनका कारण हिमनदीहरू खुम्चिँदै गएका छन्।
• औद्योगिकीकरण र प्रदूषण – अव्यवस्थित कारखाना र नदी-नालामा फालिएको फोहोर।
• मानवीय अतिक्रमण – भूमिगत पानीको अनियन्त्रित दोहन।
• वनजङ्गल फडानी – वर्षा चक्र प्रभावित भएर जलस्रोत घट्दै गएको छ
• पानीको दुरुपयोग – कुल आपूर्ति पानीको ४०-६०% चुहावट वा दुरुपयोग हुने गर्छ।
• हाल १ अर्ब मानिस पानीको चरम संकटमा छन् ।

💧 नेपाल र जलस्रोत

• नेपाल जलस्रोतमा विश्वकै दोस्रो धनी देश मानिन्छ ।
• यहाँ रहेका प्रमुख जलस्रोत:
  • हिमनदीहरू – कर्णाली, कोशी, गण्डकी
  • भूमिगत जल – नलकूप तथा कुण्डी
  • प्राकृतिक तालहरू – रारा, फेवा, बेगनास, गोसाइँकुण्ड आदि
• नेपालको पानी उपलब्धता:
  • प्रतिव्यक्ति पानी उपलब्धता – ७००० घनमिटर
  • हालको उपभोग दर – ३९३.५ घनमिटर

🌍 किन महत्वपूर्ण छ विश्व पानी दिवस?

🔹पानीको दिगो व्यवस्थापन गर्न प्रेरित गर्न।

🔹 सरकार र संस्थाहरुलाई जल संरक्षणका नीति निर्माणमा प्रेरित गर्न।

🔹 जलवायु परिवर्तनको असर न्यूनीकरण गर्न रणनीति निर्माण गर्न।

World Water Day: History and Significance

World Water Day is observed globally on March 22nd every year. The United Nations declared this day during the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The first World Water Day was officially celebrated in 1993.

💦 Global Water Statistics

• Saltwater: 97.5% of the Earth’s water is in oceans, which is too salty for drinking, irrigation, or power generation.
• Freshwater: Only 2.5% is freshwater, most of which is locked in glaciers, ice caps, and underground aquifers.
• Requirement: According to the International Water Management Institute, an individual requires approximately 9,000 cubic meters of water annually.
• Coverage: Water covers about 1.386 billion cubic kilometers of the Earth’s surface area.

🚨 Global Water Crisis

• Climate Change: Rapidly shrinking glaciers and unpredictable weather patterns.
• Industrialization & Pollution: Unmanaged industrial waste and sewage being dumped into rivers.
• Human Encroachment: Uncontrolled extraction of groundwater and destruction of natural springs.
• Deforestation: Disruption of the water cycle leading to the depletion of water sources.
• Wastage: Approximately 40–60% of the total supplied water is lost due to leakage or misuse.
• Impact: Currently, over 1 billion people face extreme water scarcity.

💧 Nepal and Water Resources

Nepal is considered the second richest country in the world in terms of water resources (after Brazil).

• Major Sources:
  • Glacial Rivers: Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali systems.
  • Groundwater: Tubewells and traditional stone spouts (Kuwa/Hiti).
  • Natural Lakes: Rara, Phewa, Begnas, Gosainkunda, etc.
• Water Availability in Nepal:
  • Per Capita Availability: ~7,000 cubic meters.
  • Current Consumption Rate: ~393.5 cubic meters.

• Awareness: To educate the public about the looming global water crisis.
• Sustainability: To encourage the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
• Policy Advocacy: To urge governments and organizations to formulate effective water conservation policies.
• Climate Action: To develop strategies for mitigating the impact of climate change on water cycles.
